      <image:title>About - A modern approach</image:title>
<image:caption>My work is grounded in the latest trauma-informed approaches, including Self-Trust and Integrated Resilience (STAIR), Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and the developmental trauma healing work of Pia Mellody. I have also trained with Kathy Kain (TST) and Stephen Terrell. Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) is my couples therapy foundation and Somatic Abolitionism (Resmaa Menakem) informs my work as well.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Pia Mellody - Pia Mellody | The Meadows Model</image:title>
<image:caption>My therapy approach has been greatly influenced by the powerful work of Pia Mellody. A senior fellow at The Meadows, she is the author of several groundbreaking books, including Facing Codependence, Facing Love Addiction and her latest book, The Intimacy Factor. Pia Mellody’s work in codependence, boundaries, and the effects of childhood trauma on emotional development has profoundly influenced the treatment of addictions and issues around forming and maintaining relationships. As one of the pioneers in the field of recovery, she developed theories on the effects of childhood trauma and developmental immaturity that became the foundation for The Meadows’ treatment programs and are, in large measure, the reason for its success.</image:caption>

His model of Relational Life Therapy is unique to other couples models in that it quickly addresses the dysfunctional patterns in the couple relationship and helps people develop relational skills they did not learn growing up. He is the author of several groundbreaking books, including How Can I Get Through To You, I Don’t Want To Talk About It, and The New Rules of Marriage. His forthcoming book, US consciousness will be out in spring 2022. He has been a practicing family therapist for more than thirty years and has lectured and given workshops across the country.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Narrative Therapy - Michael White | Narrative Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Narrative therapy was developed during the 1970s and 1980s, largely by Australian social worker Michael White and David Epston of New Zealand, and it was influenced by the work of philosopher Michel Foucault. Narrative therapy is a form of psychotherapy that seeks to help patients identify their values and the skills associated with them. It provides the patient with knowledge of their ability to live these values so they can effectively confront current and future problems. The therapist seeks to help the patient co-author a new narrative about themselves by investigating the history of those values. Narrative therapy claims to be a social justice approach to therapeutic conversations, seeking to challenge dominant discourses that it claims shape people's lives in destructive ways. Narrative therapy has come to be associated with collaborative as well as person-centered therapy. Key therapeutic ideas developed by Michael White include 'externalizing the problem', commonly summarised as 'the person is not the problem, the problem is the problem'; 're-authoring' the dominant stories of people's lives; and the idea of 'double-listening' to accounts of trauma: not only the accounts of trauma itself, but how people have responded to trauma.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Racialized-Trauma - Resmaa Menakem | Somatic Abolitionism</image:title>
<image:caption>My commitment to ending white supremacy and healing racialized trauma has been deeply influenced by Resmaa Menakem. He is the author of My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies. In this groundbreaking book, Resmaa Menakem examines the damage caused by racism in America from the perspective of trauma and body-centered psychology. The body is where our instincts reside and where we fight, flee, or freeze, and it endures the trauma inflicted by the ills that plague society. He is a senior Fellow with the Meadows Institute, and has been featured on several syndicated programs such as On Being with Krista Tippett. Resmaa Menakem also developed this Free Racialized Trauma Course. His book is also available on Audible and at many independent bookstores. Says Resmaa: “Moving from race to culture to creation is important, transformative, and takes work. And a lot of reps. I help people, communities, and organizations find strength in healing that is holistic and resilient. Together let’s set a course for healing historical and racialized trauma carried in the body and the soul. I am a healer. I help people rise through the suffering’s edge. I am a cultural trauma navigator. I am a communal provocateur and coach. I consider it my job in this moment to make the invisible visible.”</image:caption>

      <image:title>Somatic Experiencing - Somatic Experiencing</image:title>
<image:caption>WHAT IS SOMATIC EXPERIENCING®? Somatic Experiencing (SE™) is a body-oriented therapeutic model for healing trauma and other stress disorders. It is based on a multidisciplinary intersection of physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics and has been clinically applied for more than four decades. It is the life’s work of Dr. Peter A. Levine. The SE approach releases traumatic shock, which is key to transforming PTSD and the wounds of emotional and early developmental attachment trauma. It offers a framework to assess where a person is “stuck” in the fight, flight or freeze responses and provides clinical tools to resolve these fixated physiological states. SE provides effective skills appropriate to a variety of healing professions including mental health, medicine, physical and occupational therapies, bodywork, addiction treatment, first response, education, and others. Trauma may begin as acute stress from a perceived life-threat or as the end product of cumulative stress. Both types of stress can seriously impair a person’s ability to function with resilience and ease. Trauma may result from a wide variety of stressors such as accidents, invasive medical procedures, sexual or physical assault, emotional abuse, neglect, war, natural disasters, loss, birth trauma, or the corrosive stressors of ongoing fear and conflict.</image:caption>
